Seventy-seven people were killed and 536 injured in road accidents throughout the country on Saturday, adding up the New Year toll for the first three days of Dec 27-29 to 148 killed and 1,362 injured.

"The main causes of accidents were drunk driving" = drugged driving.

There seems to be some weird, and totally false, notion that alcohol is not a deadly drug of addiction at least as harmful (according to the most reliable expert scientific studies) as other drugs such as yaa baa and heroin.

Any rational person would realise what the daily death and injury statistics as reported here tell: there is not a single rational or moral reason for treating alcohol differently to every other popular drug of addiction. A very little sanity could greatly reduce the appalling and mounting harm from Thai drug use.

i stood in disbelieve while I watched a group taking the driving test theory part in Pattaya, 1 young guy had problems seeing the test on a screen anf he was wearing glass's!!!! (the other 10-12 had all successfully completed the test) ..so what was the result, I watch as he tried unsuccessfully 4 more times...the result, they told him the answer and like magic he PASSED????
no wonder there are horrendous accidents

Nobody should be surprised at these appalling statistics. Yesterday my wife had an accident in her truck that was struck by a car cutting the corner in front of her. The driver admitted his error and offered to pay for damage to my wife’s truck. When the police arrived and checked the scene they agreed the other driver was at fault. However, they advised my wife and the other driver to settle it themselves as they appeared uninterested in being involved. But guess what .....the other driver had no licence or insurance and as several bystanders noted he had been drinking but the police did nothing about it. So much for the competence of the

A very sad indictment on the way Thais drive cars or bikes. I drove from Pattaya to Chiang Mai and the attitude was just deplorable. I don't know how many bad accidents we saw and this was on the highway.

A reality check for people who think the standard of driving here is 'not too bad'

The main cause maybe drinking and driving and speeding, but I think the Thais need to be educated in how to drive a car, I have a Thai driving licence and to be honest Mickey Mouse could pass the test.
