Yingluck to receive degree in NZ

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be the first Thai premier to receive an honorary degree from Auckland University of Technology during her visit to New Zealand next week.

Sek Wannamethee, the Foreign Ministry's director-general of the America and Pacific Department, said on Thursday the university had informed the ministry of the award which recognises her prominent role in the international arena and for being the first woman to be voted premier of Thailand.

She will pay an official visit to New Zealand and Papua New Guinea from March 21 to 25.

As a Kiwi, I can say that no one in New Zealand gives a Sh*t about Thai Politics. If anything, this is just a cheap marketing tactic by AUT to encourage more students from Thailand. After all, what great advertising. In regards to the "links at the top comment" we simply dont operate like that. Almost everything is done by the book and there are constant checks and balances in all sectors of the government. For gods sake, the secretaries of each government department must publicly publish their credit card statements for public scrutiny. We are a little and pretty insignificant country, but we dont accept corruption.

Disc #11. I would have given you a thumbs-up wouldn't you have suggested to bring back Khun Chuan Leekpai as PM... With all due respect, Khun Chuan is a very skilled politician with maturity and sound ethical knowledge, but in his hands nothing will move forward. Which does not mean that a Thaksin, who (so-called) realized a lot of progress (for his Shinawatra corporation) is the better alternative. Thai politics are rotten but at the same time a good income for the court as the legal battle relentlessly goes on with defamation claims and Lese Majeste...

New Zealand is listed as the worlds least corrupt country.
You'll need a very clean slate to begin denigrating that country. I have spent time there . They are the most decent people I've met anywhere.
Our PM can learn much from them .
Good on them , having the grace to bestow this honour.
They know the way to spread goodwill . As opposed to the negative muck rakers who inhabit this forum .
Did anyone care to comment on Thailands GDP ? No .
Well just to bring you up to speed , it is up again .
Any country in Europe would love to be in Thailands position.

Does shining abroad clean up at home?
A honorary degree from the Auckland University of Technology because she has 5 mobiles?
    LOL
But at least it's not a paid one.

It is incredible from what futile articles some Thai people want to have a platform to comment and show themselves at least somewhere (who reads the Bangkok Post by the way, not many people up north and north east). Do these one-minded commentators now really want to fight against New Zealand or what? As if there were no other more important issues to be solved in this country.

Dis 6 - And what is it exactly that your hero did to help move Thailand forward? How much had government debt increased during his short stay in power? And to what benefit did acquiring additional debt, benefit Thailand? The best thing the democrats could do is put Chuan back in control of the party. They would regain the credibility they once had. Much of the support base they have lost would return. Possibly even myself! The PT have a plan to develop Thailand's infrastructure for the future. What was AV's plan exactly? Thaksin going to jail, is the only thing that concerns AV!

Oh Lord, forgive them for what they are doing because they don't now who she is...

Always considered Kiwis as generally well balanced people, but now...? Or is Auckland University of Technology somewhere linked with the top(?) American University our good looking PM got her fabulous degrees from (one in English, don't you forget)? Anyway, putting Technology and our PM in a same room doesn't guarantee for any animated conversation... Oh yeah, she's been CEO of AIS (though not more present there as she is in Parliament nowadays...), that could be it!
