Postbag: Double standards

Re: ''InQuote'' (BP, Dec 11).

Elements of the Pheu Thai Party seem intent on stripping Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva of his military rank, a petty-minded act of revenge if ever there was one.

On the other hand, Prompong Nopparit, Pheu Thai Party spokesman and close Thaksin Shinawatra aide, goes to the defence of the ousted prime minister's recent television broadcast, to the extent of honouring him with the title ''Police Colonel''.

ALAN REEDER-CAMPONI, what do you expect? people died! about ninety, a lot, arguably, mostly innocent, this cannot be swept under the table,in this day and age someone must be held accountable, someone must know who murdered who! are orders/records not taken in times of military intervention? this process has to continue until the families find out exactly who is responsible, who murdered their loved ones, it's only human to pursue this, afterall, would you simply forget the murder of a loved one?

    Sickened by Sala Daeng

It is not just Sala Daeng. Most of the built up areas in the whole of Thailand face a major rubbish problem. On Jomtein beach last week the whole beach from end to end was full of rubbish not a nice place to swim. Where I live the residents just chuck their rubbish onto the street near the bins because the bins are full all the time. Walk along any road anywhere and you will see piles of rubbish. City dwelling is not one of the strong points here and that is the way it is and always will be. The beach in my avatar is from an island in the Indian ocean and it is pristine so I go there when I want to see no rubbish.

All Thaksin is being asked to do is justify the decisions that he made .

    Alan Reader-Camponi

The purpose of any trial is not to find the accused guilty, its purpose is to examine the action of the accused and decide if they acted lawfully. All AV is being asked to do is justify the decisions he made, if he can do that he will rightfully be acquitted.
