How about a few new laws for Thailand?

The following are some of the new laws which I think if judiciously implemented would make a lot of sense and bring happiness to the general public. No doubt readers will be able to come up with some of their own new laws too.

New Law No.1: The government must explain in easily understood layman's language why Preah Vihear, a Hindu temple named after a Cambodian province, built by Khmers in the 10th century during the reign of the the Khmer King Suryavarman, actually belongs to Thailand.

New Law No.2: All motorcades must openly declare with highly visible signs for what and for whom the motorcade is actually for. This way the guy dying from blunt force trauma wounds to the head in the ambulance will at least appreciate he's not being held up due to an urgent delivery of double cheeseburgers and extra large fries to the Speaker of the House's office or rushing to get the deputy prime minister's son to a very important late night meeting with a certain Mr Johnnie Walker.

Charging 1000 Bhts for a few (mostly blank) page for a passport is a rip-off by most standard, I think; But I agree that this particular service is the best around.

It is notable that more and more people are laughing at and joking about (as well as complaining about) the lack of integrity of the police and politicians. Another few years of this and public ridicule of them will reach endemic proportions. Then perhaps we will see some change in their behaviour. In India the ridicule has combined with anger at the corruption. This will come to Thailand one day in the not too distant future.

So much material for comic relief, so little time and space. If I may be permitted to propose one more.

New Law 12: The passenger side window must have an un-tinted look-through, so that at least you get the satisfaction of glimpsing the moron driving while on the phone, even if the effort kills you.

Speaking of motor vehicles, there is at least one another government run service that is exemplary. The DMV at Chatuchak is a pleasure. I've never experienced there anything less than organized, fast, efficient, and friendly service.
