What about the slums?

Channel 3 news recently presented an extensive report on the slum in the Bang Kholaem district of Bangkok. Are any of those gents running for the governorship of Bangkok interested in this slum area? There is overcrowding, vermin, unsanitary conditions and always a risk of serious health problems.

Slum dwellers might not be interested in free buses or the density of traffic jams. Their daily lives are affected by more pressing problems. I'd like to hear a response from the two major candidates, Pongsapat Pongcharoen and MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

Lobzig, you are a hoot. "Students need to read newspapers, analyse what they read, and come to their own conclusions." Except you order them to read (only) one certain column holding one particular viewpoint, in one certain publication of one certain kind of medium. How open minded of you. Newspapers? To tell students how to think? That's it? No books, no videos, no broadcasts, no groups, no lectures? Voranai will explain to them what to think and how to think it. And that will be their own conclusion.

Eric: I agreed with your original letter and your comments on the present condition of the trees. They were destroyed by incompetent pruners who had no professional supervision. Pattaya cares little for natural beauty of any kind. Witness the removal of the small park adjacent to the pier entrance which has been replaced by the hideous concrete block which is an automated car park. Even man made structures cannot be properly maintained e.g. the dilapidated lighthouse and the disgraceful state of the boat park area.

Capatilism is all about making as much money as possible which instills greed in the society that practises it. Can this genie be put back in the bottle?

Lance Armstrong is a cheat. There are no degrees of cheating. You are a cheat, end of story.

I agree with Paul Kokoski. Sport is no longer a character builder. It is all about winning and money. Any one who loses is dismissed out of hand. What a sad lot we have become to allow this happen.

Paul Kokoski: Apart from you comments on tattoos, which although I personally dislike them, are an expression of personal freedom, I agree with your sentiments, which must be the first time I have ever agreed with any of your letters.

Vint, I heartily agree with you. I often feel sorry for Khun Yingluck. She's an intelligent woman with feelings who knows what the country really needs, but she seems to feel compelled to support her brother while knowing that his path is the wrong path for the country. I don't think that she will find inner peace and happiness until she breaks free from his tight grip. If she can free herself completely from his self-serving agenda and his cronies, and undo a few of his corrupt populist schemes, she could quite possibly achieve wonders for the country. She has to decide what kind of legacy she wants to leave behind.

Sleepless in Asoke.....why did you buy a condo next to Soi Cowboy? It's been there for 40 years and obviously is protected from noise laws....but would you buy a condo next to an airport or railway line and then complain about the noise?
