Chalerm put in his place

Finally, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung to visit the troubled deep South.

This was disclosed to the media by Mr Chalerm himself who also said he was reprimanded by the prime minister for not visiting the region earlier.

Mr Chalerm is in charge of overseeing security affairs down there in his capacity as chief of the Centre for Implementing Policies and Strategies for Solving Problems in the Southern Border Provinces. He has held the post since last year, but has not visited the region to familiarise himself with the issues.

D6 - When I first read Chalerm had appointed these 9 advisers, I thought they would be used as
    human shields.

D7 If I did then I promise I would at least sign my name to it.

Unless I missed it, I did not see anything report on the negotiation that will take place in the next month. It is widely reported that the Thai government will start negotiations with the terrorists in KL that will be facilitated by Malaysia.

The problem in the deep south, even though it's localized, has been left in the hands of lesser state officials and politicians for so many years until it has become a national problem of great magnitude. Therefore I do not agree with the PM in assigning anyone of her deputies to be in charge and then try to distance herself and the entire cabinet from it. This show the lack of appropriate awareness of the situation and also put a poor light on her leadership.

I think that Chalerm is a very warm and pleasant man to know personally. Really! But it has never occurred to me that he is the right person to deal with and propose effective solutions to serious issues.

The headline is misleading, I was expecting to read a story about AA (alcoholic anonymous).

Please tell me I was mistaken when I saw the results of a poll concluding the Chalerm was “the most outstanding“ minister in the government. And this is someone who the PM has to force to do his job! Does not say much for the rest of the government ministers. Are the nine recent appointees advisers or potential bodyguards in case he actually gets out of his car?

    Very, very well said.

This is a tricky assignment for Mr Chalerm.
Grand in the role of public 'el salvador' of drugs (thank God) and a never ending personal PR campaign (which goes horribly wrong whenever he is left on his own) his public image is put on the line.

Its like asking a farmer to steer a plane, the plane doesn't start, and then order him to start the plane!
Will the plane survive? or does Mr Chalerm survives the upcoming plane crash??

    Public image first.always!
