What does the Buddhist Lent season, which will start next Tuesday, mean to you? Is it just another national holiday? Or is it a special event to commemorate and pay tribute to Lord Buddha?
For me, Buddhist Lent is unique. As most of the important Buddhist days like Makha Bucha and Visakha Bucha celebrate the life of Lord Buddha _ his birth, death, reaching nirvana and teachings _ Buddhist Lent is the occasion for monks and laypeople.
Known as the rain retreat, for these three months monks are instructed to stay in the same place. Monks do not travel so that they can devote themselves to study, dhamma and meditation.
