Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will hold a key meeting on Friday to prepare for the upcoming court battle with Cambodia over the disputed land surrounding the Preah Vihear temple.
Ms Yingluck will meet Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and the government's lawyers to plan strategy ahead of the hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), an army source said.
The meeting will be held at Government House and will also include Defence Minister ACM Sukumpol Suwanatat, Supreme Commander Thanasak Patimaprakorn, and the army, navy and airforce leaders, the source said. The national police chief and the Thai ambassador to the Hague will also be present.
Phnom Penh has asked the ICJ to interpret its 1962 judgement which awarded the temple to Cambodia. The ruling, however, did not mention an area of 4.6 square kilometres surrounding the temple, which both countries claim.
Oral hearings are set to take place on April 15-19 and a verdict is expected in October.
Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Democrat opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is exploiting the dispute with Cambodia to score political points.
He said Mr Abhisit and his party share the views of the protesters who have demonstrated against the ICJ in the dispute.
The Thai Patriots Network (TPN) on Monday protested against the ICJ and called on the government to reject its jurisdiction in the case.
Mr Abhisit is also trying to make political capital with charges that Cambodia has made a deal with former premier Thaksin Shinawatra over the disputed territorial waters in the Gulf of Thailand, Hun Sen said.
ACM Sukumpol, however, said the demonstrations by the TPN earlier this week should not harm relations with Cambodia.
ACM Sukumpol said the government is committed to fighting the case and will do everything it can to win.
Taking a defeatist attitude ahead of the ICJ battle would be a mistake, he said.
"We must be confident that we will not lose.
"We must be fully prepared for the fight. How the hearing turns out is another matter."
