A man died inside a pickup truck which plunged into a canal in Bangkok's Don Muang district on Tuesday.
The body of Thongsak Pingkaew, 30, was found inside the pickup, which belonged to the victim's neighbour, 50-year-old construction contractor Lod Suaykrathok.
The victim is presumed to have drowned.
The accident occurred near a residential area along Khlong Prapa on Soi Wat Weluwanaram 36.
Mr Lod told police he drove his pickup truck to work Tuesday morning, but the vehicle lost traction and nearly plunged into Khlong Prapa.
He said the road was slippery following rainfall on Monday night with conditions made worse by laterite scattered across the road for the construction of a flood embankment.
The pickup became stuck on the edge of the canal embankment, and Mr Lod said he was unable to reverse it out.
He told police he then left the vehicle and went back to his house to retrieve another car to tow the pickup back onto the road.
He asked his neighbour Thongsak to help.
Thongsak got into the stricken pickup and held on to the steering wheel while Mr Lod fetched the other car to tow it back from the edge.
However, the pickup with Thongsak inside it ended up falling into the canal and overturning, trapping the victim inside, Mr Lod told police.
