Privy Council president and statesman Prem Tinsulanonda has called on the armed forces to support Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Gen Prem yesterday opened his Sisao Thewes residence to the prime minister and military leaders who came to wish him a happy birthday.
Gen Prem, who turns 94 today, wanted the leaders of all three branches of the armed forces to support Ms Yingluck in the national interest.
Gen Prem also wanted to see the military branches unite and work together more closely, Defence Ministry permanent-secretary Thanongsak Apirakyothin said.
Ms Yingluck was accompanied by Gen Thanongsak, supreme commander Tanasak Patimapragorn, army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, navy chief Surasak Runroengrom, and air force chief Prajin Juntong to offer Gen Prem their birthday wishes.
Members of the media were denied entry to Gen Prem's residence.
Gen Thanongsak said the meeting between Gen Prem, the premier and the military leaders lasted about 15 minutes.
Gen Prem also asked Ms Yingluck to take care of the nation, he said.
Asked whether the prime minister had invited Gen Prem to participate in the political reform council, Gen Thanongsak said Ms Yingluck did not discuss the matter.
