The protest in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Cha-uat district by rubber farmers had caused about 515 million baht in damages to the tourism sector in the southern region, Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Pureesrisak said on Tuesday.
Mr Somsak said the revenue loss in Nahon Si Thammarat was estimated about 158 million baht, 141 million baht for Surat Thani, 95 million baht for Chumphon, 99 million baht for Phatthalung and 22 million baht for Prachuap Khiri Khan, totaling 515 million baht.
The cost will be reported to the cabinet meeting today, he added.
The minister said his ministry has been working with police chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew to come up with measures to prevent protesters from blocking roads, closing border check points or airports - all of which severely affect economy, particularly the tourism sector.
