Skrillex meets Zelda in webgame 'Skrillex Quest'

The sounds of dubstep lord Skrillex are jammed into pixelated, faux-retro webgame and Zelda homage Skrillex Quest, which owes as much to modern riffs on adventure games as it does to Nintendo's long-running series.

A conventional 'save the princess' story arc is augmented by Skrillex's thumping beats; stylistic associations with mobile hit Sword & Sworcery, Zelda pastiche 3D Dot Game Heroes, and subversive adventure game Nier mean the hero's motivations are immediately under suspicion -- especially should players face a boss-battle against a throng of oblong Skrillex fans and the beatmaster himself.
This isn't the first time that web game whizz Jason Oda has come up with a musical adver-game, having previously made similar (though less technically advanced) diversions for Fall Out Boy and Chemical Brothers; certainly, its level of sophistication means that Skrillex Quest is more likely to avoid the notoriety of commissioned games such as Burger King's Sneak King or Domino Pizza's Avoid the Noid, internet-sized dubstep backlash notwithstanding.
