Ericsson sues Samsung

Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson said that it was suing South Korean rival Samsung in a United States court for violating patents.

"Ericsson has today filed a lawsuit in the United States against Samsung for infringing its patents, after nearly two years of negotiations failed to reach an agreement," a statement said Tuesday.

"The dispute concerns both Ericsson's patented technology that is essential to several telecommunications and networking standards used by Samsung's products as well as other of Ericsson's patented inventions that are frequently implemented in wireless and consumer electronics products," it added.

Samsung has also gone to court in Britain, Japan, The Netherlands and the United States amid disputes with the US computer giant Apple over technology used in mobile phones and tablet computers.

Samsung's positions have been backed up by courts in most of those cases.

With the use of smartphones in particular surging worldwide, courts are frequently being asked to rule to settle skirmishes in a long-running global patent war between the high-tech giants which have accused each other of stealing intellectual property.

geoffo # 1, with all due respect, the Samsung Android system is far better, what about the super AMOLED screen, far better as well. Not even touching on the possibilities like battery and memory change which IPhone seems to want to keep for itself. Now we are bickering about the appearance, which is fighting over car designs, they all have four wheels, windows etc. I some time ago was planning to buy this IPhone, but reading about all the court cases decided to have a closer look, lucky me, I spend far less for a far better phone because point by point Samsung was better and all IPhone users could say is, "but it feels better" BP ink up???

Samsung's positions have been backed up by courts in " most" of those cases.

Really ?? , 1BN USD fine by Apple and more coming.

Something had to fuel Samsungs obsession to reach number one by volume. Design " plagiarism " was one strategy and lower quality to reduce prices was another.

I think Ericsson will not be the last firm chasing patent infringements.
