Last week I told you about Fly Navy in U-tapao Naval Air Base, the latest addition to Rayong's several purpose-built mountain bike tracks. Today let's go a few kilometres further west to the Sattahip district of the adjacent Chon Buri province to check out another of the navy's new MTB training grounds, the Ko Ro trail.
The track is located within the compound of the Royal Thai Fleet, which is called Kong Rua Yutthakan in Thai, or "Ko Ro" in short, hence the name. Unlike Fly Navy, Ko Ro wasn't built on flat terrain but on a small hill only 50-60m high. The two trails may not look so different when viewed on Google Earth, but when you ride them you will realise they are worlds apart.
One big difference between these trails is that Ko Ro boasts intimidating climbs, lots of them, and right from the start.
